Fri 23 July - clean-up, Platinum Card, Lamarche, Patmores, circus, Kanumbra

Since Sarah and Albon and the boys were returning from a family holiday tomorrow, we thought we should clean-up after ourselves and leave their house to them. So while Rita was doing some final work in the garden, I checked email to see that the details of my new Platinum Card had arrived, so I went online and activated it, and also activated the associated Travel Insurance for our trip to France. Another task completed. We then finshed the clean-up and had some lunch, then headed off towards Saint Jean de Losne where Kanumbra was now moored for her repair work. But first we had to make a little detour to Lamarche, whose main claim to fame is the twin spires on the little local church.

As we talked with them, Greg mentioned a bunch of circus people who had set up a tent on the other side of the river, and who had been playing music during the afternoon. He suggested we might want to go check them out. But we didn't have to go out of our way, as they checked us out as we left town.  Only in France would you find a circus troupe flagging down cars to let them know about the show they were doing in the town square that evening and in their tent tomorrow. Hopefully the weather treated them kindly.

After we left Lamarche, it was just a short drive to Saint Jean de Losne, where we found Kanumbra moored on Pontoon A, just in front of the Capitainerie. She looked a little worse for wear, having been left alone for nearly 2 years, but not nearly as bad as I feared.

The rest of the evening was spent moving stuff off the barge (like our bicycles) in order that we could move stuff onto the barge (like our suitcases). Then some time spent working out where everything was on the barge (like the cutlery drawer) so that we could make a light dinner, before retiring fairly early (for us).

But our reason for going there was to catch up with Greg and Bridget Patmore, who were moored there with Drumsara, because we had to return their mooring rope that Phil Tyson had "borrowed" when he left Auxonne a few weeks ago. We found them snugly moored on the River Saone, and spent a pleasant hour or so catching up with them. They will also be cruising in this region over the next few months so we may cross paths again this year. I borrowed this photo from them, as I forget to take a photo while I was in Lamarche.
