Fri 23 Aug - good sleep, bookshop, Lampernaud, Test, camp bed, Bureau, Lozarts

After a good night's sleep at Coussan, Rita went into Mermande with Terrie to visit a bookshop where Rita had bought a book last year, and wanted to buy a copy to replace it (after a friend had mislaid the original). Unfortunately, no luck. So in late morning we made our way back to Moissac. As we drove into Moissac on the back road from Castelsarrasin, we took a wrong turning, and found ourselves in an industrial area where they were preparing for the fruit harvest. We were amazed by the number of packing crates being readied for use.

We had decided that we would buy some fruit trees for Miyu for her birthday, so that she could plant one each for the (soon to be) three boys, and then watch them (the trees and the boys) grow over the years. So we drove over to a nursery at Lampernaud that had been recommended to us. But when we got there, the nurseryman advised us that now was the wrong season to be buying and planting fruit trees. He suggested that November would be a better time. So instead of buying the plants, we bought a gift certificate that Miyu could redeem at the appropriate time in a couple of months.

On the way back to Moissac, we stopped at Intermarche to buy a camping bed that we would use tomorrow night when we sleep over at Nico's in our tent, after the big party. While we were doing all this, I was following the Ashes Cricket and saw that England's batting had collapsed in the first innings of the 3rd Test Match to be all out for 67, in response to Australia's mediocre first innings total of 179 (without Steve Smith who missed the match with concussion).

We went into Moissac for dinner at Le Paris (formerly au Bureau), then went for a walk around the town centre to see if anything had changed. And the one thing we noticed was that the Fat Lady sculptures had returned, after last year's experiment with the stainless steel artworks.

We then returned to La Maison, where we met up with Raphael and Isabelle, who had returned from vacation in Mexico. We talked about their trip, and what we had been doing "up north", and also about their future plans re renting La Maison. It seems that they have given up ideas of buying the house, and now that Raphael's two girls have moved away from Moissac for further education, and given Isabelle's changed employment status, they are looking at moving to another town. But they don't expect this will happen soon, and are happy to continue renting for the immediate future. This increases the possibilities of us returning to Moissac in the next couple of years, and giving the idea of the B&B at La Maison a proper trial.
