Wednesday 10 Oct - quiet, swans, extension cord, Lyon Port, re-plan trip north

It was nice to have a quiet night in a sheltered harbour, without the rocking caused by passing commercial barges. It was so nice that we slept in till 0930h.

As we were having breakfast, we realised that we had been joined by the younger members of the swam family. We soon found out that, unlike geese, they do not like lettuce leaves.

The youngsters were soon joined by one of the parents.

This morning, we went to the chandlery behind the capitanerie to order an extension power cable, to use on those occasions where our existing cord won’t reach the borne. I took some photos beforehand to ensure that we got the correct type. The guy had the correct connections and 13m of cable and said he could put it together over lunch.

On the way back to the barge, we dropped into the Capitainerie to pay for another day, since there was forecast to be a rainy day ahead, then returned to the barge to start fixing the bicycle tyres. The rain started early at 1300h, so we settled down to do some blogging and study.

Rita rang ahead to make a mooring booking at Lyon, only to learn that the Lyon Confluence Port had closed for the season on October 1. We then sat down to reschedule the trip north, because an extended stay in Lyon had been central to the plans. As a result, we decided to stay in Valence till Monday after Rita had returned from her trip to Bern to help with the arrangements for her mum moving into the nursing home. This required finding train connections to and from Valence, rather than Lyon.

In the afternoon, we picked up the 13m extension cable, and then continued to work on the barge as the rain continued till bedtime.
