Saturday 20 Oct - foggy, Wentworth, Weldom, town ride, canoes, sun, Barnesy

The morning dawned foggy but by mid-morning it was clearing up. Over the internet, we followed the outcome of the Wentworth by-election in Australia, following the overthrow and resignation of ex-Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. We were pleased to see that an Independent candidate, Kerryn Phelps, looked like she was favoured to win, although it was clear that the result would be close.

In the late morning, I went for a bike ride to Weldoms hardware store to pick up a few items for some boat repairs...

and along the way got another view of Kanumbra’s mooring with the chandlery and boat shed in the background.

In the afternoon, Rita and I went for a ride into the town to explore, and to find out where the train station was located.

We stopped for a coffee/beer near the Cathedral, and I was impressed by this sculpture display of circus performers at the Mairie Gates

On the way back to the barge, we rode along the river frontage, and noticed this performance stage extending out over the water. As always, when we see stages, we wondered what it would be like for a steelband concert.

Near the rowing club, my eye was caught by these moored canoes...

… and by the congregation of sneakers left on the dock by those out for a little canoeing.

Later in the afternoon, Rita went to the nearby supermarket to do some shopping, while I sat in the sun on the rear deck and worked on this blog, before turning my attention to reading an autobiography of his childhood years by Jimmy Barnes, an Australian/Scottish rock legend. Quite an interesting read (Working Class Boy), showing how people from a poor working class background can rise out of such conditions, and then grow and mature as they get older.
