Monday 22 Oct - clear, freshening breeze, fix mast, straps, McFerrin

The good weather continued with a clear sunny morning, but with a freshening south-easterly later in the morning.

Rita surprised me by emailing that she had secured two tickets to a Bobby McFerrin concert on 9th November in Geneva.

Today’s main job was to finish the fixing of the mast. The first job was to cut two pieces from the aluminium strap I had bought at Weldoms, then drill screw holes and counter-sink them. These were then screwed to the mast across the split in the wood. If we hit another bridge, I’m not sure which part of the mast will fail next. Just have to be more careful.

After remounting the mast, I then re-attached the VHF aerial to the mast, and affixed the mooring light to the top of the mast. Job done!

Later I went out to Weldoms again to buy some straps to go over the winter cover for the deck, in the same way as I now have straps over the top of the dogbox flytent.

Later in the day, the wind changed to a northerly and while it was still sunny, it was starting to get colder. So I retreated to the wheelhouse and did some work on this blog.

In the evening I watched a Bobby McFerrin documentary on YouTube, and thought about how what I was watching for pleasure was also part of Rita's course material in Dijon.
