Wednesday 20 July - furniture, TdF, house tour, furniture packing, Frank's

In the morning, Rita , Kuno and I went to pick up the van and then the furniture from the nearby storage facility. However, unbeknowns to us, both these locations were within the cordon area for the departure of the Tour de France that was leaving Bern that morning. The roads we needed to use would be closed until 1230h that afternoon, so Kuno and I turned around and walked back to Kuno’s house, while Rita went swimming at Marzilli baths. When we got back to the house, Kuno showed me through the three adjacent houses that he manages, including the basements and the backyards. Considering that the houses are about 700 years old, they are in surprising good condition. Apart from some work on the windows, the rear of the houses have not been modernised, and so are almost like an archeological dig of times gone by in Bern.

After lunch, we returned to collect the van (now that the streets were open again) and then went across the road to the Zebra storage facility and loaded the furniture that we would be taking back to Moissac. We then returned the van to the secure parking area and walked back to Kuno’s. In the evening, we went to dinner at the house of Rita’s other brother, Frank, and were joined by various other relatives throughout the evening.
