Friday 15 July - Nice Bastille Day, camion, drive to Bern, supper at Kuno's

After our disappointment with the Castelsarassin fireworks last night, we awoke to the news of the fireworks disaster in Nice, with 100 killed by a truck driven by a madman. Makes one wonder about the future of all July 14 fireworks displays in France in the future.

Donald drove us to Castelsarassin to pick up our camion, while he went on to move Jane’s boat back into port at Castelsarassin, after moving it out yesterday for the fireworks display. We then drove back to the barge to load our stuff, including my bicycle for use in Bern, and then on to la Maison to pick up David. On the way back from Bern, this camion will be full of period furniture from Rita’s dad’s old apartment.

We started out at 1030h by driving to Toulouse airport (again!) to drop David off for his flight to Germany. We then got back on the motorway to head for Montpelier, Valance, Chambery and Geneva before arriving in Bern around 2000h. Along the way, we saw many road message signs with the following display:

After a welcome tankard of beer, we had supper with Kuno (Rita’s brother) where we will be staying while in Bern.
