Tuesday 9 August - rainy day, afternoon petanque, Night Market, purse theft

Tuesday dawned rainy, so it was a day for washing & reading, while we hoped it would clear before the Night Market tonight. In the afternoon, after the rain had stopped, we went up to the petanque park and played a few games (mostly won by Rita this time). When we got there we were the only people in the park, but as the afternoon wore on, some of the local elders started to come down for their regular games. They watched us for a while (don’t know if it was in admiration or amazement) until we decided to stop playing and watch how the masters do it!

As evening arrived, we went back to the barge to drop off our petanque kit, before heading up to the town square for the Night Market. The usual crew of bargees arrived from all directions, and we caught up on their activities in the past weeks/months. The market organising team again asked us when the steelband was returning to play once more!!

Soon after we returned to the barge after the market, we got a call from Jim (the port capitain at Moissac) to say that Jackie had been in touch with him in a bit of a tizz, since she had had her purse stolen from the house in Moissac. Apparently, she had just left the house to go into town when she remembered something she had forgotten. So she dashed inside again for a moment while she left her purse on the back verandah. When she got back, her purse (containing all the usual important stuff) was gone. She was contacting various people, including Jim, to see what she should do in this situation in France. I think we shall hear more of this predicament.
