Monday 29 August - SGP, Cacor cruise, prepare barge, Don&Laura dinner

In the morning, I watched a YouTube video of the SGP Nordic Grand Prix from Gorzow (Poland). Many people are often surprised, given my professional background, that I enjoy speedway so much. But having grown up attending speedway meetings since I was born, I guess it’s just in the blood. And the Final of this GP event was one of the best races I have seen for a very long time. Just watch the action below, and keep an eye on the passing and re-passing action between Doyle (red helmet) and Woffinden (blue). You’d have to go a long way to see better and fairer speedway racing than this (“Speedway from the Gods”).

In the afternoon, we had to turn the barge around to put it into position for its winter stay in Moissac. However, rather than just do a quick u-turn, we went for a short cruise over the Cacor Aqueduct with Jackie. We always enjoy this trip, especially going through the willow-clad lock just to the north of the aqueduct.

On the way back, we let Jackie take the wheel and she seemed both confident and competent (until we got to a lock!)

After placing the barge in position in port (she would be doubled up with another Piper again this winter), we prepared the boat for leaving by putting all the rest of the gear, including ladders and bicycle, into the salon.

We then enjoyed a relaxed farewell dinner at La Maison with Jackie, Don and Laura.
