Friday 19 August - AFL, Marseilles, Toulouse, swim, L’Abbaye dinner

After the group touring yesterday, today seemed to be a day when everyone did their own thing. Jackie was on an early train headed for Marseilles, where she had a family event planned. Doug & Krista took the opportunity to take a later train to Toulouse to have a look around the “pink city”. Rita enjoyed the free time to go for an extended day of swimming at St Nicholas de la Grave. I continued working, with rapidly diminishing hope, at getting some more files off the crashed hard disk.

Around midday, I watched the AFL game between the Hawks and the West Coast Eagles. We had lost the corresponding game in Perth last year, then came back to beat them in the semi-finals and eventually go on to take out the premiership flag. This year we led briefly in the first quarter, but then the Eagles kicked away to win by 25 points. We can but hope that the same pattern as last year repeats itself.

After Doug & Krista returned in the early evening, we took them into Moissac to have dinner at L'abbaye restaurant. Once again the food and the ambience did not disappoint.
