Sunday 8 September - heading to Toulouse, heavy rain, Castelsarassin horses

Up early to go through the locks back up to the canal at 9.30am. Then turned right and headed east, up the canal. Got over the Cacor Viaduct without touching the sides or using the bowthruster, but then it started to rain. Went through a few locks before we stopped just before Castelsarassin and waited at a pontoon for the rain, which was now heavy, to stop. The combination of the rain, and Rita’s ankles, means that we are going much slower than we need to in order to get to Castelnaudry and back to Toulouse before the weekend. So we gave up the idea of going to Castelnaudry and emailed Judy and Peter accordingly. We will now meet up with them wherever we happen to meet up with them. After the rain eased, we went into Castelsarassin and moored up for an early lunch. Learned that there had been a third AFL upset for the weekend, with Carlton coming from behind in the last quarter to over-run Richmond. Since there was now no hurry to get anywhere, we decided to stay in Castelsarassin for the night. Walked back down the canal a bit to look at the horses which were taking part in an event in Castelsarassin.
