Tues 5 July - 1050h start, less weedy, E35 lunch, la Gouliasse mooring, jets

Given that Baume les Dames was not one of our favourite destination towns, we were quite happy to leave relatively early before 1100h. We were also happy to leave early because we were away from the boat last night when the mooring fees collector came around, and they hadn't yet come aound this morning. But we didn't feel guilty about this because the last time we were here in 2019, we paid an extra night's fees without using them. So now we are even!

The canal sections looked a bit less weedy today, and we made good progress as we entered the very hilly region near the Crucifix ecluse.

We continued on until we came to Ecluse 35, where we stopped at the upstream stone quai and had lunch. The panoramic view was a great complement to the lunch, and Rita could not resist a quick dip in the Doubs after lunch. The water was a little colder than she expected.

After lunch we meandered upstream past Clerval, until we arrived at Ecluse 29 at La Gouliasse, where we had moored in 2019. Since it was approaching 1900h by now, we decided to moor here again for the night, and pulled over to the waiting pontoon in the shade from the westerly sun. Once more, the tranquility of this spot captivated us, until two fighter jets zoomed overhead at just a few hundred metres elevation!
