Mon 26 Aug - Intermarche, Phil, stay over, study/blog, swim NOT, dark by 9

We made a morning trip across the canal to Intermarche to stock up on supplies for our trip down the Doubs this week. While Rita returned to the barge, I walked across to the Gare to meet Phil Tyson, who had come up from Auxonne to retrieve the car. As I walked to the Gare, I saw a juxtaposition of images which illustrated how Montbeliard had intergrated the old (the church spire), the new (the modern residence on the hill) and the somewhat silly (the ducks).

Luckily, Phil really enjoyed the scenic train trip up the river, so it was not much of a burden to come to Montbeliard. We had a chat for an hour or so, then he took the car for the return trip. In the meantime, we decided to stay another night, after we realised that the Capitainerie was closed on Monday and we had not paid for the previous week of our stay in Montbeliard.

As I arrived at the Gare, I noticed a building which explained why the symbol for Peugeot cars is the Lion, given the nearness of the Peugeot factory to Belfort.

After Phil left, we settled down to get some work done on exam revision and the blog. Late in the afternoon, Rita rode up the hill to Petit France on the other side of the canal to go for a swim at the piscine. However, when she got there, she found it was closed (it was Monday!). So she rode back down again (a bit quicker).

We realised that summer was coming to a close, when we saw that darkness had descended by 2100h.
