Sun July 24 - no power, away at 1030h, Dampierre, fisherman, bike accident

I realised this morning that the power cord was not plugged in on the boat because, despite paying for another night's power, I had forgotten to put the plug back in after disconnecting it while doing some electrical work yesterday. Doh!  Down to 63% charge. so we waited till 1030h to get away, in order to charge the batteries a little bit more.

When we finally got away we crossed the junction with the River Doubs, before going a whole 7.5km to Dampierre, before we stopped again for the day. We moored in front of the church again, but pointing in the other direction this time. While Rita rode back to find a swimming place on the Doubs, I kept working on this blog. While I was doing this, I heard noise on the other bank of the canal and turned around to witness a rare event; a French fisherman actually catching a fish!  it was quite a decent size fish as well, much bigger than the ones I had seen swimming around the boat. After he had finished taking a selfie with the fish, he gently placed it back in the canal to swim another day.

As the day wore on, it became progressively hotter, and I was soon doing what we normally do in such circumstances, and that is placing our quick-drying towels around the inside of the wheelhouse (especially on the sunny side). As well as being ultra-absorbent and quick-drying, they are also great at blocking the sun and keeping the wheelhouse much cooler.

In the late afternoon, Rita arrived home on her bike, with a strange look on her face. As well as not finding a good place to swim, she had also had a little accident on the bike, when she had not seen a grey bollard in the middle of the grey bitumen bikepath, until the last moment. She tried to avoid it, but only succeeded in tipping herself off her bike and crashing to the bitumen on her knee and several other parts of her body. Her knee was bleeding and needed some repair, but the damage to other parts of her body will only become apparent to others in a few days when the bruising starts to appear. Luckily, she had not fallen on the bollard or hit something else on the way down. Just a lesson that accidents can happen to the best of riders (just like when I drove my bike into the canal at Buzet all those years ago).
