Thurs 2 June - new camper pickup, Veronique, canal walk, cafe, lost card, sunset

Our first sleep in the van was very restful, and made us realise that it would be very easy to live in it for extended periods. It contains just about everything that's on the barge, but in an even more compact space. Surprisingly, it contains just about every feature that we wanted when we were previously looking at campervans in Australia, as demonstrated by the layout diagram below.

The general appearance inside is very similar to these photos I found on the web. Even though Vanumbra is now 14 years old, it is in excellent condition and not much different to these photos of such a van when it was new.

Anyway, we were up early and refreshed, because this morning we were taking John and Irene in our car down towards Toulouse to pick up their new (secondhand) Campervan. It is from the same manufacturer, but is a 2016 model and is called a Florium rather than a Fleurette. At the last moment, John received a call from the dealer saying that the van wouldn't be ready until this afternoon, because they had found a water leak as they were doing last-minute preparations.

So we turned around and walked back to the Aire, after which Rita paid a visit to Veronique, one of her Moissac music friends that she hadn't seen for a few years. While she was away, I decided to go for a walk up the canal. So I headed out the back gate of the Aire and was immediately on the side of the canal. It was good to see this familair sight again.

I wandered up the canal and eventually came to the Cacor Aqueduct over the River Tarn. But I was in for a little surprise, as a new cafe (Les Terrasses du Pont Canal Cacor) had been established behind the Eclusiers House. It said it was open from 1000h to 2300h every day, but today at 1100h it looked a little empty. But it showed great promise.

Around midday, John learned that the leak had been fixed and the van would be ready for pickup after lunch. So we headed down a bit early, since we needed to pick up some power cords and plugs for our van. After visiting three different stores, which were all out of stock, we found a fourth store that had everything we wanted. So we stocked up and then headed for Espace Evasion (not a great name) where the Plunkett's new van was waiting. When we got there and met the saleman, my first thought was "The Dodgy Brothers", with the slicked-back black hair and even the gold tooth. But he and his wife (Espace Evasion is a family business) turned out to be very friendly, and within an hour or so, John and Irene were driving back to Moissac in the new "Flo", while we were driving back to the Aire.

That evening, Rita and I walked up the canal to the Cafe Cacor after dinner, for coffee and ice-cream. We had a brief talk with the waitress and resolved to come back again. As Rita went to pay the bill, however, she couldn't find her credit card! After a little bit of panic, I used my card and we decided to have a good look in the van after we got back. As we returned along the canal, Moissac decided to put on one of it's classic sunset scenes.
