Sun 12 June - sleep, eBikes, impeller, storm, CdS, neighbours, sunset, moonrise

Given the surfeit of driving over the last few days, we decided to sleep in this morning and meet the day with a relatively clear head. After breakfast, Rita went up the river for a swim, while I moved the eBikes from the boat to the campervan. We figured 5 bikes on the boat was a bit much, and the eBikes would be more useful in the van, which is more likely to find itself in hilly terrain than the barge, where we can confine much of our cycling to along the flat towpaths.

I finally got a response from H2O about the note they left in the wheelhouse about the impeller. After I pointed out to them that the main engine did not have an impeller, they agreed that they must have been referring to the impeller in the generator (but I remain unconvinced that this was the case). They also failed to explain why I should not use the toilet or push any buttons!

In any case, I opened up the impeller casing on the generator, and to my eyes it looked like it was in good condition. However, to be sure, I decided to replace it with the new one they had left with the note. When I removed the old one, it sprang back to a perfectly circular shape, confirming its suitability for use. However, I proceeded to insert the new one and put the old one away as a perfectly good replacement for the future.

As the day progressed, the skies turned stormy. So I settled down to do the final preparations of my Carte de Sejour application (now that I had my end-of-May bank statement showing our financial situation). As evening arrived, our Swiss neighbours settled down to dinner on the pontoon between our boats, but unfortunately it seems that dinner time is the time when they decide to address any domestic issues they are having (in very loud voices). so I decided to go for a walk around the port. As I walked past the parking area, I saw that our two vehicles had settled down for the night.

As I reached the river, the sound of birdsong filled the air, including our resident cuckoo who always makes his voice heard.

When I turned around to return to the boat, I realised that the moon was also rising over Port Royal.
