Tues 2 Aug - early rise, neighbours, inspection, Lac Remoray, grey water, relax

We were up early to prepare for the trip to the Jura. Since we would be leaving the boat unattended in L'Isle sur le Doubs for several days, we decided to have a chat to our neighbours in port to ask them to keep an eye on Kanumbra. The people on Aslaug said they they were leaving port to find a shaded spot for the next few days, but the American couple who arrived in port yesterday (PJ Korbel and his wife on Zeemeeuw) said they would be staying in port for a while and would be happy to watch over Kanumbra.

So we left port with some sense of security and headed down to St Jean de Losne in the Scenic, where we would swap vehicles in the H2O secure carpark after we picked up Vanumbra. While we were driving to SJDL, we got a call from the people who would be doing the insurance inspection on the van, saying that "the expert" would be available next week, and that our inspection at the Iveco workshop in Dijon was scheduled for 11th August; so that gave us a deadline for when we had to be back in Auxonne, to take the van to Dijon.

After switching to the van, we filled her up with diesel at 1.88euro/litre (not a bad price at the moment) and headed towards the Jura. We stopped at Poligny to get some provisions for the trip and then h eaded up the escarpment to the plateau near Besain. Until now, I hadn't realised that the place we were going to was just off the road we always took to drive to Bern, so the drive was very familiar. After about another hour, we arrived at the campground at Lac Remoray, near the town of Labergement Sainte-Marie, where we signed in and found our campsite among the many tents, caravans and camping cars.

As soon as we set up, my first job was to fix the outlet tap for the grey water tank, which had been broken during the theft. Until I did this, we could not use the water system in the van because the waste water would have just run out onto the ground around us. I had already done a trial assembly with the various pieces, but now that we were with the van, I could cut various pipes to size and glue everything together. After about an hour the job was finished, and we could start to use the water system in the van.

Because we had arrived fairly late in the day, we didn't get a chance to explore the lake yet, so we just set up the chairs and table under the rollout awning, and had a relaxed evening meal and drink. As the sun set, we remembered a little gift from Irene (that hadn't disappeared during the theft) and so we brought out our HomeSweetHome candle to celebrate the return of our new "home" and to soften the growing darkness.
