Sunday 1 July - pinch’n’punch, choir party, World Cup

We must have both been distracted by the circus last night, because we both forgot that today was the 1st of the Month, and I didn’t realise it until reading a Facebook post from a friend the next morning. So I won a belated Pinch’n’Punch for July.

Late in the morning we headed off to a function being held by Rita’s music teacher and choir leader, where she had invited all her students and music associates to a big BYO lunch at her house/studio in nearby Castelferus. After eating and drinking, all of them would be given the stage to perform a couple of songs. I promised Rita I would drive her there and then stay for a little while, and she could get someone to drive her home. But after I got there, the barn venue was so impressive and the people so friendly that I ended up not leaving early.

After lunch, it was time for everyone to "sing for their supper”. This started with a few warmup exercises for everyone, me included. I really enjoyed it.

Then for the rest of the day, individuals, duets or groups got up and performed on the stage. Rita’s group was by far the largest (more space to hide) and they sounded pretty OK.

The best performance of the day was undoutedly when the cameraman got up on stage and did a stirring rendition of “If you go away”, which literally had Rita and myself both in tears. We stayed there till the late afternoon, when the genre changed from popular and traditional music to classical. It was at that point that we thought we would take our leave, and gave a fellow singer a lift back to Moissac.

After getting back to the barge, we learned that another big team, Spain, had exited the World Cup after tying 1-1 with Russia, and then losing 4-3 on penalties. Later in the evening, another team exited after a penalty shootout, when Denmark lost to Croatia 1-1 (3-2).
