Saturday 28 July - rain, by-elections, market, deck fittings, Phil keys, nothing

It was just as well I replaced the dogbox last night, as there was heavy overnight rain and wind which would have created chaos without the dogbox in place. As it was, the mushroom vents I replaced yesterday must not have been sealed well enough, or else the wind was just blowing the rain up under the mushrooms, as rain cascaded through the ceiling into various rooms on the barge. Luckily, we had enough buckets to catch most of the water, even though it had been entering for quite some time before the rain had woken us. As a result of the threat of continuing rain, we had to cancel the Tarn trip we had planned with the Lozat's.

In Australia, there were by-elections in 5 Federal electorates, as a result of various politicians losing their seats for being dual-nationals (at least in theory). Despite the Government pumping it up for weeks as being a test of leadership, they won none of the seats, and remain on a wafer-thin majority of one.

In the morning I went up to the Saturday Market, and then to the Tourist Centre to buy a copy of the Moissac book that had the picture of ex-Mayor Nunzi on our barge in 2012 as part of the Pentecost Parade.

I then adjourned to the Compostelle to wait for Rita, but she never found me, so I had a very quiet and relaxing 30 minutes. I then returned to the barge to finish replacing the deck fittings that I had removed while painting.

Phil Tyson (Effie) left his barge keys with me while he goes to Nime for his Carte de Séjour interview at the Prefecture. Good luck, Phil!

We had a pretty nothing night, accompanied by the sound of petanque balls clicking and music tracks from the Spik Easy Cafe at the Uvarium. But we were rewarded with the full-moon rising over the river exactly in the gap in the trees near the rowing centre. Sadly, moon shots are something that my iPhone 7+ does not capture very well.
