Monday 30 July - cooler, mail, Rovi drinks, Phil’s Nime saga, moonrise

It was a cooler morning, so we took our time to cycle up to la Maison to get mail from the house. We found a stack of past mail in the kitchen cupboard, plus Rita’s Swiss birth certificate which had finally arrived. The rest of the day was pretty nothing, and in the late afternoon we accepted an invitation from Rob and Cherie to have drinks on Rovi, and to discuss their plans to possibly buy a house in Moissac and renovate it as we had. As we sat chatting, we noticed Phil arrive on the quai dragging a small travel case. We then remembered that he had just been in Nime for his meeting with the Nime Prefecture about his Carte de Séjour application. So we yelled out to him to join us and fill us in on progress. He left his bag in the middle of the quai and immediately joined us. Although his trip had been unsuccessful, and we thoroughly understood how he felt, the way he told the story was hilarious and had us in stitches. Phil is a great story-teller, and although we felt somewhat guilty laughing at his misfortune, we couldn’t help ourselves. By the end of the evening, I think (hope) that Phil felt better by being able to unload on us.

After we returned to Kanumbra, we sat on the rear deck and took pleasure in the simpler things in life, like watching the  moonrise. Although the excitement of the “blood moon” has passed, it’s still a great sight seeing a big moon rising over the Tarn.
